Storage Units Near Me in the South Bay: Gardena, Torrance, Carson and Hawthorne
Our yard is at 17014 S Vermont Ave in Gardena, which makes the South Bay the shortest run we make. If you're in Torrance, Carson, Hawthorne, Lawndale, Redondo, Hermosa, Manhattan Beach, El Segundo, Harbor City or San Pedro, we're usually minutes away rather than an hour.
If you searched "storage units near me" and landed here, the practical difference is this: instead of driving to a facility and walking your things down a hallway, we bring a steel container to your driveway and you load it at ground level. Then it either stays where it is or comes back to our warehouse.
What being local actually gets you
A few things that only work when the yard is close:
- Faster turnaround. We can usually deliver within about 24 hours anywhere in the South Bay when something goes sideways — an escrow moves, a contractor starts Monday, a pipe breaks.
- Easier warehouse access. If your container is stored with us, coming to get something out of it is a fifteen-minute drive from most of the South Bay rather than a project. Access is Monday through Sunday with 24 hours' notice.
- We know the streets. The narrow lots in old Torrance, the alleys in Hermosa, the hill streets in San Pedro, the industrial approaches in Carson. We're not guessing.
What the driveways are like, by city
Gardena, Hawthorne and Lawndale
Mostly post-war tract homes on flat lots with real driveways. Straightforward drops, and the 8x16 and 8x20 go in without much conversation. The usual blocker is a mature tree over the driveway, not width.
Torrance
Varies a lot by neighborhood. Southwood, Hollywood Riviera and West Torrance have generous driveways. Old Torrance, north of Torrance Boulevard, has smaller lots, shorter driveways and detached garages off alleys. All workable, but send a photo if you're in the older grid.
Carson
Good lots, flat, wide streets. Also a lot of industrial and commercial addresses, where a container on the yard is a routine thing rather than an event.
The beach cities
Hermosa, Manhattan and parts of Redondo are the tight ones. Narrow lots, walk streets, alley-loaded garages, and street parking that's already a competitive sport. Frequently the right answer here is load it and let us take it — the container spends a day or two in the driveway and then lives at our warehouse. Details in tight driveway delivery in LA.
San Pedro and Harbor City
Hill streets, some serious slopes, and older homes with steep short driveways. We need level ground for the container to sit right, so a sloped driveway sometimes means placing it at the flat top or the flat bottom rather than mid-run. Worth a photo before booking.
Whether your spot works: the three-minute check
- Is it flat and firm? Concrete or asphalt is ideal. Packed gravel works. Soft dirt and lawn will rut and settle after the first rain.
- What's overhead? Branches, carport eaves, and the power service drop from the pole to the house. This stops more deliveries than anything else.
- Can a truck back in? Straight-ish approach, cars and bins moved.
- Which way do the doors face? Free to get right on day one.
Our drivers place containers with a remote-controlled system, which means the container walks into position rather than requiring the whole truck to thread into your driveway. That's why we can work in old Torrance and the beach cities where other companies pass.

What South Bay customers actually use them for
- Remodels. These neighborhoods are full of homes hitting the age where the kitchen and baths come out. See home renovation storage.
- ADUs and garage conversions. Extremely common here, and every one starts with emptying the garage. See ADU construction storage.
- Selling. Agents want a third of the furniture out before photos. See storage for staging a home.
- Aerospace and defense contractors around El Segundo, Hawthorne and Torrance, storing equipment, fixtures and project material.
- Small businesses along the Carson, Gardena and Torrance industrial corridors, using containers for seasonal overflow instead of a second suite.
- Military moves. We're veteran-owned and there's a real military community across the harbor area. See military PCS storage.
- Downsizing and estate cleanouts, which are steady work in the older Torrance and Gardena neighborhoods.
Sizes
- 5x8 — a studio, one bedroom, or a home office.
- 8x12 — a one-bedroom apartment, or a one-car garage.
- 8x16 — a two-bedroom house, or a full two-car garage. The most common pick.
- 8x20 — a three-bedroom house, or a garage plus patio plus side yard.
We also keep 5x7 vaults at the warehouse for small loads. People underestimate consistently — they picture the furniture and forget the garage and the closets. If you're between two sizes, take the bigger one. Room-by-room lists are in what fits in each container size, and everything is on the mobile storage rentals page.
Driveway or warehouse
Keep it at your place if you'll be reaching into it — a remodel, a job, a sort that's going to take a few weeks. Access whenever you want.
Send it to Gardena if you won't. Your driveway is a driveway again, which matters in a beach city or anywhere street parking is already tight. And because you're local, coming to see it is genuinely easy. Comparison in at-home vs warehouse storage.
Coastal moisture
Everything west of the 405 deals with the marine layer, and the beach cities deal with it seriously. The container seals fine — the issue is what you carry in.
- Load only dry things. One wet wetsuit bag or damp beach towel humidifies the whole box.
- Two or three hanging desiccant absorbers, swapped every six to eight weeks.
- Everything off the deck on pallets or 2x4s.
- Light oil on tools and metal.
