Portable Storage in Costa Mesa, Newport Beach and Fullerton

We deliver storage containers to Costa Mesa, Newport Beach and Fullerton, plus Irvine's older sections, Tustin, Orange, Brea and La Habra. Container comes to your driveway, you load it at ground level, and it either stays there or goes back to our Gardena warehouse.

These three cities are less alike than the map suggests, and each one has a different thing that makes container rentals slightly tricky. Here's the honest local rundown.

Newport Beach: the space is the whole problem

Newport is where placement conversations happen before price conversations. The Peninsula, Balboa Island, Lido and the older Corona del Mar streets were laid out long before anybody imagined a truck delivering a steel box.

What we run into:

  • Alley-loaded lots. Most of the Peninsula and Balboa Island garages open onto narrow alleys. The alley is usually the delivery path, and it has to be clear — bins, parked cars, and the neighbor's contractor all block it.
  • Driveways that are barely driveways. A lot of these homes have an apron, not a driveway. Sometimes a smaller container is the only thing that fits.
  • Coastal permit sensitivity. Street placement near the water gets attention. Private property is the only path worth planning around.
  • HOA and community rules in the gated communities, with defined day limits for temporary containers.

The honest answer for a lot of Newport addresses: load it, then have us take it. The container spends a few days in the driveway and then lives at our warehouse. That sidesteps most of the rules and all of the neighbor friction. Comparison in at-home vs warehouse storage.

And if you genuinely have no workable spot, we cover the alternatives in portable storage with no driveway.

Costa Mesa: remodels and businesses

Costa Mesa is a lot easier. Eastside and Mesa Verde have real driveways with real approaches, and the tract homes off Baker and Adams are straightforward drops.

What people here use them for:

  • Whole-house remodels. Eastside is deep into a rebuild cycle and those projects need everything out. See home renovation storage.
  • Design, furniture and creative businesses. The 17th Street and SoCo corridors have a lot of showrooms and small studios running out of square footage. A container on the lot beats a second lease.
  • Retail and e-commerce overflow heading into the holidays. More on that in small business inventory overflow storage.
  • Garage conversions and ADUs. See ADU construction storage.

Fullerton: old houses, narrow driveways, students

Fullerton's older neighborhoods — the historic district north of downtown, the streets around Hillcrest — have beautiful homes and driveways built for a 1930s sedan. Long, narrow, and often with a detached garage at the back.

That's workable more often than it looks, because our drivers place containers with a remote-controlled system. The box walks into position; the truck doesn't have to thread all the way in. Tree canopy is the bigger issue than width in these neighborhoods — those old streets have mature trees over the driveway, and overhead clearance stops more deliveries than anything else.

The other Fullerton constant is the university. Cal State Fullerton drives a real seasonal cycle: students clearing out, families consolidating a room, apartments turning over. A 5x8 handles a student's whole apartment. Details in college student storage in SoCal.

Staging a high-value listing

This comes up more in Newport and Costa Mesa than anywhere else we deliver. Agents at that price point want a third to a half of the furniture gone before photos, and they want it gone by a specific date.

Why a container beats a facility unit for staging:

  • One handling. Furniture goes from the room into the box, twenty feet. No truck rental, no facility hallway, no cart.
  • It can disappear. Load it in the driveway, we haul it away before the photographer arrives. A container is not in the listing photos.
  • It comes back where you want. After it sells, we deliver to the new address, not back to the old one.
  • Month to month. Escrow slips. Nothing about the storage has to change when it does.

The coastal moisture note

If you're near the water in Newport or the west end of Costa Mesa, the marine layer matters. A steel container seals well, but it isn't a dehumidifier, and anything loaded damp stays damp.

  • Load everything dry. One wet wetsuit bag, one damp rug, one just-washed cushion humidifies the whole box.
  • Hanging desiccant absorbers, two or three for a large container, swapped every couple of months.
  • Off the deck. Pallets or 2x4s under anything you care about.
  • Oil the metal. Tools, bike chains, patio hardware.

If a chunk of what you're storing is genuinely moisture-sensitive, that's a solid argument for having the container picked up and held at the warehouse rather than sitting in a driveway a block from the harbor all winter.

Sizes

  • 5x8 — a student apartment, a home office, one bedroom.
  • 8x12 — a one-bedroom, or a one-car garage. Common for staging a condo.
  • 8x16 — a two-bedroom house, or a full two-car garage. Common for staging a house.
  • 8x20 — a three-bedroom, or a whole-house remodel.

People almost always guess small. Room-by-room lists are in what fits in each size, and the full lineup is on the mobile storage rentals page.

Before you book

  1. Photograph the approach from the street. This is the single most useful thing you can send us, especially in Newport and old Fullerton.
  2. Look up. Branches, eaves, power drops.
  3. Check the HOA if you're in one, for the day limit on temporary containers.
  4. Decide door direction. Free to get right on day one.
  5. Have rough dates. It's month to month, so rough is fine.

Who we are

Veteran-owned, based in Gardena, and small enough that the person answering the phone can look at a photo of your alley in Newport and tell you yes or no instead of guessing. Three numbers up front — delivery, monthly, pickup — and the price you're quoted is the price on the invoice.

We can usually get a container out within about 24 hours if you're up against a listing date or a contractor's start.
